D102 Multimedia (Level 1) SPB issued in 2006 (Crack the code!)
» See the Summative Project Brief (SPB) and teachers’ support notes
The scenario:
The title of this SPB is crack the code. Students are required to create a multimedia game aimed at their friends. They will choose an appropriate theme.
The game will start with a main screen which links to other parts of the game – instructions, level 1 (slideshow), level 2 (video), level 3 (guessing game), and finally crack the code.
The code will be a six-letter code. At each level of the game, players must answer 2 questions – helping them to crack the six-letter code.
The tasks:
- Students will investigate what exactly is required of them. They will think of the audience, purpose and nature of the information to be conveyed.
- They will create some detailed designs for the final products. They will then identify multimedia assets that will be used in their final products to communicate effectively.
- They will gather original and readymade multimedia assets from a range of primary and secondary sources. They will also edit them to make them suitable for their own specific needs.
- Students will create the final products – a short slideshow with questions at the end, a video clip of one person talking, a guessing game, game instructions and the main screen. They need to include a flash movie for users to see if they have cracked the code.
- Students are expected to create a project plan at the start of the project. This plan should be used to monitor progress throughout the project. They will produce an end-of-project review. All the required evidence should be submitted in an eportfolio.
