Students can mix and match between SPB levels. Students work on SPBs and get a raw mark for each unit. Edexcel converts the raw marks for each SPB to Uniform Mark Scores (UMS). The qualifications are awarded. The grade boundaries may differ between SPBs for the same unit and level.
When you are ready to claim the qualifications (known as cash in), Edexcel adds up the total Uniform Mark Scores (UMS) for all the units. If the student completes unit 1 (Using ICT), he/she can only claim an Award. If he/she completes unit 1 (Using ICT) and one other unit, he/she can claim a Certificate. If he/she completes unit 1 (Using ICT) and two other units, he/she can claim an Extended Certificate (CiDA+). If he/she completes all four units, he/she can claim a Diploma. This will be determined by their total UMS (see table below).
