Which software?
This is a difficult one. There are many software vendors out there claiming they have the right software for the course. Many even claim that they are Edexcel endorsed, but are not. Whilst Edexcel might endorse some applications, use of those applications cannot guarantee success.
Edexcel is not concerned about the application used, but the extent to which the students have used ICT skills to present their work effectively, whilst showing full consideration of the audience and purpose.
Regardless of your budget, the key questions to ask are:
- Will this application help my students create products that are fit for audience and purpose?
- Will this application help my students to present the work clearly to the moderator?
- Will my students find this application easy to use?
- Will the files be in (or can they be easily converted into) the acceptable file formats and size limits specified in the SPB?
Our team have used these programs and have 100% results to show for it:
Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Access, Publisher, Powerpoint), Macromedia (Adobe) Studio MX suite (Fireworks, Flash, Dreamweaver, Freehand), Open Mind, Windows Movie Maker, Windows Sound Recorder, Audacity, Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Adobe Premiere Pro and Mediator.
