SPBs: what are they?
SPB stand for Summative Project Brief. Edexcel released SPBs for each unit (at both Levels 1 and 2) every autumn. The students are expected to complete the work required in the SPBs in a controlled environment, as you will need to confirm that the work produced is students’ work. Some of the task can be done at home, but majority should be in the shool environment.
Edexcel has 2 moderations windows every year – December and May/June. The SPBs are valid for 4 moderation windows (ie two years) starting from Summer of the next year..
For example, the SPBs released in September 2007 will be valid for moderation in May/June 2008, December 2008 and May/June 2009 December 209..
This means that teachers and/or students will have a choice of SPBs to work on at any time. We suggest that you work on the most recent as this will give you a longer period of time to work on the Summative Project, improve work (if necessary) and resubmit them in another moderation window. Having said that, you might wish to stick to the SPB that you are already confortable with.
Links to the SPBs can be found on our Resources and SPBs pages or on the SPB section of the DiDA website. You will need to know the unit (eg D201 - Using ICT), the level (eg level 2) and the year (eg 2007) to locate the one you want. |
